The #1 overall pick three years earlier, he won NL Rookie of the Year as a 21-year-old and immediately became the most exciting power hitter in baseball. The Straw-man swing, all leg kick and uppercut violence, produced 335 home runs and eight straight All-Star selections through the 1980s.

He led the 1986 Mets to one of the most memorable World Series wins in franchise history, then later collected three more rings with the Yankees in the late 90s. For Mets fans of a certain generation, no Met has ever been more electric.
